Hey everybody I have a 99xj with 4.0 and a gauge cluster that is rather odd in a number of ways. First off the speedometer goes to 120mph instead of 100 the temperature gauge and oil pressure gauge are measured in metric measurements but the oddest thing is on the fuel gauge where they usually say unleaded fuel only well mine says diesel fuel only??? Were XJs sold overseas ever offered with a diesel? This Jeep was bought in Ohio and has been in the family since 2004 and has always been a mystery. It also is equipped with daytime running lights and a block heater leading me to believe that it may be from Canada but if that were the case wouldn't the speedometer and odometer be in kmh instead of mph? and the diesel thing makes me wonder if the dash cluster has been changed with one from a diesel but did they ever make such a thing?

 

Yes, some cherokees did come with diesels. Why a 5 year old car would need a new gauge cluster and then be swapped with diesel one is a mystery. Maybe try contacting Jeep for the build sheet.

 

Thats the same thing that I thought unless it was a Canadian Jeep moved to the U. S. and somebody swapped in a diesel dash cluster that read mph instead of kmh. I wonder if it could have been a factory mistake that was never caught?
