I have a '91 XJ 4wd, 6cyl that was bought from a "Mechanic". This guy had no clue how hoakie his work was. Here is one of the few problems I have found with this XJ: When articulated, or even just slight movement of the forward axle, My front driveshaft and yolk impacts the O2 sensor. It seems that this is a terrible and possibly not stock location for the sensor. The sensor is approximatley 1" from the bottom of the downpipe out of the header, sitting on the forward or leading side of the pipe. I was wondering what the stock location is, or if anyone has any ideas of a better location for it.

 

 

Is the rig stock? The O2 wires dangling?

 

Thanks Tony B, that's exactly what mine looks like. But the O2 sensor has a dent in it. I will post a picture tomorrow

 

I lifted it 3" totally legit, but the sensor is still in a dangerous location.

 

Take the XJ to a muffler shop and have them put a new bung in the exhaust pipe (If the pipe is in good condition!) Or put it in the exhaust header collector (Thicker material to work with!) and plug up the old bung. That should take care of the problem!

 

Here's the pictures, but yes I will be relocating my O2 sensor. Just wanted to see if this was the correct location or not.
