Nwe Lifters on Old Cam???
2000 Cherokee 4L 157k.
Wanted to see what ppl thought bout this? Ive currently got my top end apart to replace the head and gasket. Have noticed in the past a slight tick on either the #5 or #6 lifter set and am contemplating replacing all 12 tappets.
Honestly don't want to have to do the cam as well, but... Any thought or advice? has anyone just replaced lifters on high mileage 4L's??
Thank you!

Go to the Crane Cams website. They have a tech section that talks about new lifters on an inservice cam.

I replaced all of my lifters without changing the cam. Most of the lifters had collapsed and I was getting next to no oil up through the push rods. I, too had the ticks.
The new lifters fixed the lubrication problem, (x300%) but the ticks remained. That was many, many miles ago. Slap a diesel sticker on it and everyone will stop asking questions about the noises.
Many guys screamed that I was breaking the laws of physics and nature.
While there may be a hole torn in space somewhere, my 4.0 is still running fine.
Go for it.
