Default NP242 Transfer case issues

Sometimes when i try to engage my NP242 into "full time" it just locks into "part time" and does not seem to want to go into full time. Like the axle wont disengage to allow free turning. I can go from "part time" to 4 low with no issues but for some reason the light only comes on every once in awhile in "full time" and only sometunes will "full time" engage. I also have an issue getting it out of "part time" to put it back in 2wd. Iv got to go back and forth with the shift fork from 2wd to "N" then try slamming it into 2wd for it to disengage.

Is this a linkage issue or a interbal issue?

Here's a link to a CF thread about TC shifting.

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/4x4-shift-fly-153760/

It's five pages but read through the whole thing. Cruiser54 has described the proper shifting of a TC in this thread.

You may have linkage problems and it would pay to get under your Jeep and look over the linkage and make sure all the bushings are in place and that the pivot points are lubed. Use a light oil to lube them.

Edit: Also, make sure your TC has adequate fluid (ATF). How often do you change your TC fluid?

Your transfer case is working every time you drive, whether it's in 4WD or 2WD. All power from the transmission goes through the TC to the rear wheels until you select 4WD, then (in addition to the rear wheels) the front wheels are powered through the drive chain (and associated gearing).

The previous owner may have neglected the TC fluid change and now you've added 6K more miles on it. I would highly recommend that you change the fluid in your TC as soon as you can (winter's coming). Do you know how to do it, and what fluid to use?

Yeah i know all of what that thread is about, i shift exactly as stated in there. Its just the transfer case doesnt go into full time instead it locks into part time then it will drop down to 4low but skips full time.

#50 or 51 are worn out probably. I have problem switching to 2H from 4H. I checked my linkage adjustment and fluid level.
Try to move lever further.
