NP242 tcase rebuild stupid question

NP242 tcase rebuild stupid question
mangled the oil slinger (dust cap) on the back of the np242 tcase. ordered a new one but its been almost a month and its still not here. Question is would i be able to run the tcase without the cap and boot or is it just gonna dump fluid everywhere
