I have a 1998 Cherokee with a np242 transfer case. when I put it in 4 part time I have a orange indicator on the dash. When in full time or 4 lo there is no light. When I checked the dash lights by pushing in the odometer button and turning the key to run neither 4wd indicator turned on although all the other dash lights worked. I pulled the indicator switch from the front of the transfer case and connected the prongs with a paper clip. Even with the switch eliminated a light would only come on for part time. Any idea how to get the full time and 4 lo indicators to work? Also, anyone know what is plugged to the rear of the np242?

This happens with all of them, I've just been too lazy to follow the guide and fix it. Guide is really the same for any of the 4x4 lights I would think.
For now, as long as the light for part time goes on temporarily and then GOES BACK OFF, I know I'm in fulltime (no lights will be on). Now to make sure, not only can I feel/hear it a bit when it engages, I can try to lose traction with the rear and I'll see that I can't. If it won't engage (out of part time either to full time or back to 2wd - which is more common for me at least) - I just find a safe spot to reverse it hard for 50-100 feet and itll usually get it back out of part time. Sometimes just going slightly offroad or onto a bit of snow or gravel will kick it back out of part time back to 2wd when it sticks going back out of 4x4.

I think I found my issue. The connector that plugs into the switch has a broken prong. Does anyone know the part number for the connector? I am unable to find it.
I am fairly sure that part is no longer available at the dealer. If anyone has that jumper for sale, I would like very much to purchase. I have a 2000 and I am wanting to convert to a 242. The TC I purchased did not have the jumper.

I may have been looking for a bad number. An older post on NAXJA listed this number as being the jumper for. 2001 242 TC: 56041612AA

How did you get the part number?

So lemme see IF i can bring this thread back from the dead!
Did anyone ever buy the part? And did it work? Cause I have tried all the other ones and this is the only one that is still around!

I went to the dealer and was told that number was no longer available. I just tried looking it up on factorymopar.com and they are showing the listing. I doubt they have it but you might give them a try.
I eventually found one at the JY. I am finally going to be able installing my NP242 in the next couple of weeks.
