I want to rebuild my transfer case since I have never done it, it came from an unknown donor vehicle, and it's noisy and has really bad looking fluid. Some of the sites inquire about chain width when ordering a rebuild kit and I was wondering if some cases had wider chains then others. I really don't want to pull the case apart and THEN order a kit. I am hoping the inquiry is for people who have done a wide chain upgrade or something. Searching on the google and on the forum search is yielding unclear answers as well. Has anyone come across a stock case with a chain wider then 1 inch?

 

i personally don't know of any jeeps coming with a 1.25 inch wide chain from factory. they have all been the 1.00 inch wide chain. but, i have heard of other 231's that came with the 1.25, but i think that was dodge (231D).
you can however, swap out your 1 inch to a 1.25, if you buy the kit. i haven't heard of anyone doing it. i thought about it, when i installed my SYE, but figured it's not really needed, so i didn't do the swap.
