Default np231 shift position sensor?? (4 pins)

Just going over some wiring stuff and noticed that there is a plug
near the shifter on the transfer case. It is oval in shape with four
pins inside (shift position sensor?) My wiring harness is for a 96.
I am pretty sure this tcase didn't come from a 96.
The NSS and TCU harnesses from the transmission mate with the engine wiring harness correctly as well as the O2 sensor harness.
Here is the issue
The speedo harness(3 wires) fits onto the speedo sensor (3 pins). On
the other end of this harness there are three contact points but
the connector from the engine harness has 5 pins. (They still snap together)
I am assuming that this transfer case has seperate harnesses for the
speedometer and shift selection. Would this just be a case of not
having shift selection lights?
Thanks
Daniel
