Yeah. Whatever the hell you want to call it, I didn't have access to a gear puller long enough and didn't want to wait, so I ended up using a cutting wheel on my dremel
Main shaft is fine though lol

I just did a complete rebuild on my np231.A blind hole bearing puller makes getting a couple of the bearings out a lot easier. You will need a pair of lock ring pliers not snap ring pliers.

External lock ring, spread with flat-nosed pliers, several in a transfer case:

Internal snap ring, compress with pliers with tiny tips, I only had one of these:

I always heard both of them refered to as retaining rings. At least that is what both my "Snap ring" and "Lock ring" plier boxes say. Just figured that one was with ears and one was without.
