While were on the subject a had a few questions

1- I have 4.5" of lift and im gonna add the RE HnT, purchase the Spicer connecting part and I have a front driveshaft off 97 Automatic. Does the front driveshaft have to be balanced, my plan was just change the U-joints

I'm I missing anything else???

2-I want to add a bigger lift in near future, will I have to do any new mods to rear driveline after I did the HnT,CV Driveshaft?

I would encourage any one doing a H&T to read the go jeep wright up
it is the most accurate

and yes you need to have the shaft turning to help keep the hole strait

how come the kits come for the newer cherokees? why wouldnt they work on my 89? same transfer case aint it? also ive read through all this but is it possible to piece this all together yourself and make your own "kit" for even cheaper then you can buy the kits?

you just need a kit with the seal adapter for the older TC

the pic is a universal pic your setup may be slightly different.
i thoughts the yokes were the same for 231's and 242's? also this kit doesnt come with the seal setup that replaces the tail cone like most? does it use the same seal and tailcone? the other kits seem to pull everything in closer to the TC and would give better driveline angles...

Hi under the pic it says (the pic is a universal pic your setup may be slightly different.) thus seal, shorter yolk ect... call them they will set you up with the right kit for your TC i found it came out cheaper for iron rock kit than the RE kit. working on a budget everything helps. and there are 2 style cases mine is for the older style 242. the one in the pic is for the newer style be shure what you have before you order from either company.

Ok i installedthe transfer case with the hack n tap in my 89 XJ monday. i installed a front driveshaft from another 89 XJ and it fit but to me it seemed to be a little to short. I only have another 1 1/2 inches before it is fully extended. the drive shaft is 30 1/2 " from center of the u joint on the yoke to the furthest u joint on the cv joint when in the fully compresses state. i just ordered a driveshaft from e-bay for $45 shipped from a 1995 grand cherokee auto with a V-8 and a 242 transfer case that driveshaft is 33 inches that is an extra 2 1/2 inches and should bring me right where i need it to be and have just the right amount of travel in and out. when i get the drive shaft and put it in I will post it here and let every one know how it worked out.

ZJ front shaft. i sent him a pic on how i wanted it measured he sent me a pic back with a yard stick showing me his measurement and it came out 2 1/2 " longer than mine. i did read somewhere i think here on CF that the ZJ front shaft was longer by aprox 3" hopefully this will do it.
