Ok so in my, "what type of rotors are you running........." post, I had 100+ different opinion's both pro and con on whether to use slotted or drilled & slotted rotors on my dd XJ. I've made my decision on going with stock rotors so I can put the extra $$$$ into my lift. My question now is PADS. What are you guys and girls using on your dd?
Semi-metallic, Greenstuff 6000, 7000 Organic, Hawk Performance Ceramic, Hawk Ferro-Carbon HPS, EBC Ultimax Aramid-Fiber Metallic, Kevlar, Autozone Ceramic, and so on and so on....?
How do the pads you have perform? Any brake dust? Any squealing?
Tirerack said in a note on the brake pad page that my 2001 XJ Limited came with ceramic pads from the factory and they recommend using the same due to the brake dust issue with using other pads, is this fact or fiction?
Thanks for helping me decide on the rotor issue now help me decide what pads to use on them.

ceramic is nice buy not always in the budget....ceramic is stock on alot of vehicles....Semi-metallic is ok but doesnt last as long as ceramic and is harder on rotors......

depends on what you want.
ceramic has not treated me well with regards to stopping perforance. Low dust, low noise, low stopping ability... again my experience. Lots will chime in and say that is not the case.
I run raybestos brute stops, a semi metalic pad that dusts and makes noise but it also hauls the rig down better than other semi's that I have tried.
This is with running a quailty Wagnor vented disk (no slots, no holes).

I am using Drilled/sloted rotors, with the duralast gold cmax, Ceramic Ultra Quiet pads, they have a rubber layer on the back side, They have worked great, no brake dust, they grab like hell, o ya and if i burn threw them somehow im getting free replacments, from that orange autoparts store, Kinda lame but hey it works for me,

i've found that the more money i spend on pads, the happier i am with them. i thought my duralast golds were great, but i the carquest super top of the lines i have now are even better.

I like ceramic pads too. As a rule of thumb, the cheaper pads give you dust. Get the ones guaranteed for as many miles as possible. The dust comes from pads that wear quickly.

I get the ceramic ones from Orielly's. They have a lifetime and they are quiet. Don't really cost too much either.

I have those on my cherokee now. I just laughed at the kid in Orielly's when he told me they were lifetime warranted. Do you think they will honor that, or just have a clause that a qualified auto mechanic has to install them for the warranty? I don't drive it enough to ever wear them out. I will probably damage them some other way first. If that warranty is true then these seem like a good deal.

almost any parts store has brake pads that have a Lifetime....but that is against defects...not them wearing out.

I asked the guy and he said all i had to to was remember the phone number I gave him (If I don't have a receipt). I asked "So no matter what?" He said just bring whats left of them in and he'll swap them for new ones, no prob. We'll see I guess but they've always been honest. But every pair of "lifetime" pads I've bought I either sold the vehicle or upgraded to better pads. So I dunno. We'll see.

semi-metallic pads stop better than ceramics. but ceramics are quieter, and create almost no dust.

since there isnt a huge difference in stopping power, i would suggest ceramics.

the dust comes from the material used, not because of wear.

X2 I actually experienced better stopping power with them when I replaced the metallics that were on it with ceramics after my lift and jump to 31's.

Once thing to consider ceramic based on my experience does not do well when wet. Others might have other experiences but on my old truck if they got wet stopping power dropped..
