Have a 4wd 2001 Cherokee d30 front axle. I had the front end up on jacks and was wondering if it was normal for the front drive shaft to spin as the tire is rotated forward when in 2wd? I though the hubs where unlocked when in 2wd?

Sorry that I'm so ignorant? I just got this heep a few months ago and it's my first 4x4 so I don't know a lot yet but last time I checked there are plenty of 4x4s with automatic hubs that don't say locked/unlocked
It's not that weird for you to think that. The earlier model XJ's have a vacuum controlled axle disconnect on the D30. They got rid of it for the later models(so yours is normal). I'm not sure how much, if any, MPG's you would gain from it.
