Noisy left front Hub/wheel
Hello, i am a new member on here. Just used the introduction thread to introduce myself. I was in the market for a daily driver 1995 Cherokee Laredo, but when i took it for a test drive it was making a grinding noise from the left front wheel that went away after about 10-15mins of driving. Anyone have any insight to this or what i could be?

A grinding noise coming from one wheel would be brake, wheel bearing/hub assembly or possibly the knuckle U-joint. The U-joint usually pops when it starts going bad, though. Take the wheel off and check out the brake caliper and pads. If they are good it's most likely bad wheel bearings.

The Wheel Bearing/Hub Assemblies on the Jeep Cherokee are simple to replace. Just three 1/2" 12 point socket type bolts and it comes out....oh, and of course the big nut on the end of the axle shaft. The problen is that the bearings are in a sealed wheel bearing/hub assembly and they go for anywhere from $60-$100 a piece. For the good ones with Timken bearings from Autozone they are $100 a side.

i went to the junkyard and pulled the axleshaft and hub assembly out of both sides as backups (i tend to have problems with front axles alot lol) but like another post claimed the three bolts in the back and the entire axle and hub comes right out the axle nuts however can be nearly impossible to get off at times so i always just kept spare shafts easier to swap out on a trail or in a pinch and an easier diagnosis of the noise
