Default Noise while in 4WD?

While in either 4 hi or 4 low it has a clicking or rachting sound under a load ie:going up a hill. only very slight when coasting or going down hill. Any ideas would be appreciated. ( checked the vacuum motor and shafts and all good with plenty of vacuum)

I'm no expert but It could need fluid or chain is loose or has stretched?

I am just going on what I had read earlier today. If I can find the link it has some pretty cool troubleshooting tips, not for just jeeps but in general.

Well there 1 of 3 things thats possible wrong.

1. Possible bad front axle u joints or front driveshaft you joints, i would go under the car and try moving the front drive shaft and see how much play it has and also check to see how much play are in your front wheel ujoints.

2. Possible that you have a tooth broken in your front axle, if it hasnt been done in awhile i would do a front diff service and check how the gears look.

3. Your chain may have stretch in your transfercase and will call that noise, opening the transfercase to replace the chain or get a new or used transfercase.

If its not fully engaging then i would say you shift linkage for your transfercase need to be adjusted.
