Default Noise when in 4-high

Oh crap. PLease tell me I'm not out hundreds of dollars I don't have.

My 96 with ~150k is making noises. I haven't tried 4-low but when in 4-high, I get a 'walka-walka-walka-walka' chirping sound, but only when not accelerating. As of right now the jeep functions well in 4-high, but it definitely doesn't sound right. What should I check? I'm assuming this is a T-case issue, but I guess it could be front diff stuff too. I changed all fluids 2-2.5 years ago, but should check fluid levels.

Please help me figure out what is going on. We've got about 6" of fresh powder today and the snow is supposed to keep coming until midnight or later. I can't wait to do more work in the below 0 temps again.

I had an issue with mine which it was kinda hard to get into 4X4. I don't renember if I had a noise or not but what I did find out was my crossmember was bent upwards and was causing issues with my t-case. This was damaged when it was stock. I replaced the crossmember & have had no problems at all. I suggest check all fluids, crossmember & front driveline for bad u-joints. Any or all will cause issues.

Sounds like possibly a driveshaft u-joint, especially when it only happens when you're decelerating...???

Found out it was the 'double cardone' (spelling?). You know the pair of u-joints that surround some ball on the front driveline near the transfer case. I definitely need to rebuild it, but don't know where to get the parts. Does anyone have ideas on where to get quality rebuilder parts for this? I can get them from the local parts shop, but I'm unsure of the quality.

I should add that I'm not looking for pure beefy parts, just a suitable upgrade for a daily driver/weekend mountain crawler. I hunt/fish year round and my companion is a golden retriever so I need reliable parts.

Ideas? Suggestions?

Thanks,
s

I'm sure your parts store will hook you up with what you need. If you have a choice, I usually try to get the part that costs a bit more. It may or may not be worth it, but i'm sure you don't want to do same project in a couple years.
