96 4.0 AW4 231 and 170K miles.

Loud Grinding , whirling, whining trans noise. Makes the same noise in a shift positions P, R, N, D, 3, 1-2, reacts to engine speed not wheel speed. Flex to Torq bolt were loose, but tighening didn't affect. Start up in the morning it screams. After warming up and a restart noise reduces to a "normal" sound trans whine. Sometimes has trouble making first upshift of the day, like you had it in 1-2, once you get it to shift from 1 to 2 it works fine rest of day. Trany has had a light whine for couple years but the screaming grinds, airy noise is new. Where to start?????????

 

have you checked fluid for debris like metal shavings, or added the lucas additive band-aid?
