Default No wipers or backup lights

Forgive me if this has ever been posted but I did not quickly see this in a search and I am short on time.
I have a 98 Cheokee Sport ,4.0, Automatic. It recenetly started to loose the wipers and the backup lights at the same time. It is an electrical issue of some kind. Somedays I start it up and no wipers in any mode and the backup lights are inopr. They are connected somehow as when the wipers work the reverse lights work and the wipess don't neither do the lights.
I did do the obvious checks including taking apart the covers on the steering column and dash to check for loose wiring but none found. Same with any relays under the hood.
Maybe somehere knows.....and is like hey...this is easy...happens to alot of them.
Otherwise to the dealer it goes...and...well....ewww!!!

The NSS controls the back up lights, usually means it needs to be cleaned. The wiper control modual is under the dash, its velcrowed on. It needs to be replaced.

Default is the wiper control similar to the one in my MJ

My Comanche had a bad wiper control module...it was velcro'd under the dash...you could remove the whole thing and plug the two harness's together that went to it and your wipers worked fine...just no intermittents?
Is this possible on the Cherokee

Last what is the NSS? I don't recognize the achronym

Neutral safety switch If you have an auto you have one. There are many write ups on how to clean it. I will see if i can find one for you a bit later on.

ohhh yah thats right...I had a Comanche but it had a 5 speed BA-10 so it had a different switch and that was on the side of the tranny.
SO maybe both problems are not related....possibly although the work and fail at the same time....but then again i have seen wqeirder coincidences.
On the wiper module can you just remove it like on the MJ or does it have to be installed to have any wiper action. Like i said on the Mj you just plugged the two connectors together and all you lost was intermittent wipers as that was all it controlled...on the MJ atleast
