Default No temp gauge

I put a 98 cherokee motor in my 96 ckerokee. Now my temp gauge dont work. There was a sensor that went into the top of head near the back on my 96 4.0 thats not on my 98 4.0.Everything is working great but that. How can I get the gauge working without swaping the head , or can I?Can I hardwire the sensor to the coolant sonsor?

had this same prob when i put an 01' 4.0 in my 91' xj. i had to build an adapter. on the heater hose that comes straight off the t-stat housing, i cut the hose and installed a piece of tubing with a hole cut in the side. in the hole, i welded a nut with same threads as the temp sensor and installed the temp sensor in that......prob solved. you could also build the said adapter for an aftermarket temp sensor....just bigger threads!

other than that i dont know what to do. i did alot of research and couldnt find anything on it. so i had to wing it!

I know this thread is dead but i figured i would pass along my solution to this issue. I put a '99 4.0 into my '96 and i put the sender for the gauge in the block drain plug hole. Just got a 3/8 npt(i think thats what size it was)to 1/8 npt adapter from the hardware store with the sender for the 96 4.0
