No start... TPS??
Hey guys my 99 xj is giving me starting problems. It tries to start and stay running but dies. If i push the gas pedal down while starting, i can get it started and keep it running as long as my foot is on the gas. This makes me think its some kind of throttle issue like the TPS (throttle posion sensor). I've heard these can be touchy on jeeps. Where exactly is the TPS on the throttle body, and would i be able to just clean the sensor? Any help or input is much appreciated thanks in advance!

On mine (1988) it is located on the front of the throttle body and on the drivers side of the IAC (Idle Air Control). You can check it pretty easy using a volt meter. There are really good instructions the Chilton's manual on how to do this. You can start by checking all of your grounds to make sure that you have a good ground. But it is a really easy replacement, cost me about $45 and I was done in about 30 minutes (since I had to adjust mine) not sure if you can adjust yours or not.

What were some of your symptoms of a bad TPS? With mine, i can barely get it to run, and if i do the idle drops super low and it dies in a matter of seconds.

Same as mine except it would only die sometimes, also it would rev up too, this happened all of a sudden also. I had put a bunch of new parts with in the last year so i was able to rule those out. A few days ago I posted the same question as you and then giwill posted that it was probably my TPS and sure enough he was right. Like I said quick and easy fix.
