Hey guys went to pick up my sister from the airport this morning it was 24 degrees f'in cold!!! Went to crank the heat... And semi warm air throughout the drive it just got worse got home and was going to back wash the heater core... Then I found the fluid to be nasty... And then opened the cap to my radiator to find a mustardy paste like substance here is a pic....

So my question is is my radiator shot aka the internal tranny cooler has a hole and leaking tranny fluid in radiator n vise versa for the tranny as well? Anybody see or have this problem before? Please help thanks!!!!

Haven't been able to look yet as I have a 5 speed ad need to put on lift to check I am going to do thAt tomorrow...
And if I replace rAdiator what is a good radiator to go with? I will be living in colorado in may and it will go from stock to 6 in lift with 35 so kinda rough on the engine with the altitude so I want a good radiator but don't wanna empty the bank... Military so we don't make that much.... Just enough to have fun n tip a few back haha

A 5 speed manual transmission will not have a cooler, so the chances are pretty slim of you having tranny fluid in the cooling system.

Looks like some one has neglected there cooling system or added some stop leak. I would start giving the entire cooling system a good flush. While you're at change out your t-stat.

Well guys I flushed the **** outta her n it seem like no one has touched the radiator since its original purchase at least that's what I thought when I saw how much hit came outta it! So the hose that goes from rad to t stat doesn't get pressure so I figured out the t stat is stuck open... So going with a 180 t stat and new t stat housing at the same time... In my other xj I have a turbo city do they still make em? I can't find where to buy em someone help thanks!! And thanks for all the help guys!!!

Why are you getting a 180 degree t-stat? The recommended setting is 195. In Germany you are better off with the 195. If you were in a tropical country the 180 might make sense, but not in Germany.

Going to Ft. Cartoon? Still think you need the 195 there, myself.
BTW, thanks for your service!
