No headlights at all when cold, plz help
last night, st. louis had its first near freeze. Went out to trusty old jeep cherokee 98 and she fired right up. pulled headlight switch and amber lights came on but no headlights. pulled dimmer switch for brights and nothing! pushed forward, still nothing! blinkers worked.
turned on hazard lights and one side came on and the other didn't
to me that rules out corrosion on light connections, all fuses, switches, so to me that means it could only be a relay? Someone mentioned a bad headlamp delay module in another thread, but I don't believe my cherokee has that horrible feature...
so can anyone help me figure this one out? thanks!

Sorry I forgot to include that about 10 min into the drive they came on. When I got to work they worked just fine. Brights and everything. So to me that rules out bad fuses etc. sorry!!
You're correct if it were actually a fuse, it isn't. Rather a relay, suggest you unplug and replug the headlight relay, likely a poor/corroded connection.

It might just be the swicth. It it gets cold enough the contacts might not contact anymore because of the ware of 20 years of use. I would let it run and crank te heat up till it gets that swicth warm. But also see if your high beams work

i have a 95' and i have to hold the high beams on otherwise its a no go.
My first thought was relay since those tend to stick in colder weather when they've aged a bit, but if there is no relay for the headlight circuit in the XJ's then my money is on the headlight switch all the way.
