Default No gauges, 98 Cherokee Sport

Hey, once again I'm running into problems with my Jeep. I have been losing all my gauges off and on for the past two or three weeks. This happened once before a year ago, but it only happened one day, so I didn't pay too much attention to it. Now, however, it seems every few days all the gauges lose power-speedometer, tach, oil and fuel, etc etc. Nothing else goes out on it-radio works, lights work. If it happens, I usually pull over and turn it off, turn it on again, and the gauges come back. Any help with this problem would be appreciated.

Pretty common problem on late 90's XJs and TJs. The problem is the connector pins for the cluster either get slightly corroded or get bent and stop making good contact. The fix is to pull the cluster, clean them up real good, and then tweak them slightly by bending up so that they make more solid contact with the connector on the cluster. There was a TSB for replacing the connector at one point, but this fix usually does the trick.

Local Jeep dealer should have a different replacement plug for the rear of the cluster as well. My 93 XJ does this also.

Until you have time to tear it apart and clean properly, just push the cluster firmly into the dash. This should hopefully get your contact back and make it work in the short term.

My '98 did the same thing. Pretty common apparently.

Alright, well how hard is it to take apart the dash? If it isn't too difficult I'll try and do that tonight.
