Default No Driver Side High Beam And Its Not The Bulb

I just noticed I have no drivers side high beam and I already tried another bulb to troubleshoot and it still didn't work. Are they're seperate relays for each headlight? I'm totally puzzled and don't have a clue where to start. BTW its a 98 XJ.

Start with the wiring, yes you will have to start pulling off the electrical tape. You can figure out which is the high beam with a multi-meter. trace the wiring back. If it is a relay it should click when you flick the high beam switch.

So if the relays bad it will click? Its IS just one relay for both headlights then? Thanks in advance.

if the relay is good it will click. search around on here i posted a full service manual, it will give you a better idea at the wiring diagram than i can. If not you can grab the same one i did on ebay for a buck.

So it is just the one relay? Would that effect only one headlight and not the other?

I just had the exact same problem recently. Turned out the plug that goes onto the headlight had just corroded and it wasnt getting a good connection. (Since there are 2 seperate contacts for the driving and high beam it's possible just one or the other may work.) Try taking the headlight off and cleaning out the plug as best you can.

That's a very simple and good point. I did take my headlight out just before and could have very well choved dirt or grime into the contact. Ill clean it up and get back to you guys, thanks. By the way, would you happen to know which one of the contacts is for the high beam?

I have a 2000 and the high beams have a fuse for each side one for the right and one for the left.

Where is this relay located anyways? Is it by the fuse block in the cab?

Ok so it was just the fuse! For reference it was fuse #1 in the very top left corner that I replaced and it was a 10 amp. I dont know how I blew the fuse though, maybe it was from toggling the high beam on/off rapidly while testing out my new light setup? Anyways thanks again gang, its always the simplist things you never think about looking at.
