Hey guys just bought a different Jeep a few months ago. Had to replace the cylinder head on it as it had water in the oil. It's running fine now, but the A/C and heat do nothing in it. Flip all the switches and it doesn't do anything. The temperature slider won't slide all the way one direction. I get no air flow at all. It's a 1996 Cherokee. Any ideas on what I should check? I just don't know where to start really. I'm only really concerned with the heat right now as it's cold out.

First thing I'd do is remove the blower fan and see if it's clogged by debris. Then see if it's getting power at the connector. If so then the fan's probably bad. Test it with jumper wires to verify. If so replace it. Here's how. >Jeep Cherokee XJ Heater Blower Motor Replacement - A "How-To" Guide.

Well I got to the blower fan and there's just dust in there. No big chunks of debris or anything really. There's a few teeth chipped on the fan. I did notice though there is a black rubber plug on the bottom of the blower motor which has nothing plugged into it. Is that just a plug to relieve excess moisture or something else? And I want to know what genius decided to put the firewall lip IN FRONT of the bolt closest to the engine on the blower motor. That was a great idea.

The most common thing that goes wrong with fans is the ballast resistor and the switch in the panel. Use a test light or meter to verify you are getting power to the ballast resistor located on the heater housing just below the glove box. If it is not getting power, pull the bezel on the dash and pull the heater controls and check the switch. They get cooked easily. Make sure it is getting power when heat or defrost is selected.

I checked the blower motor with 2 wire leads from the battery to the connector and it did nothing. So I'm now guessing the blower motor is bad.
