newbie...transfer case problems.
hey guys, i just picked up a 93 xj from my dad. he claimed the t-case was making a growling noise, so i get in a situation where i had to use 4wd. there wasnt any growling whatsoever, more like a binding snap kind of noise. you can feel it jerk the jeep when it makes the noise. now i have searched 1000x's on here and i have looked at many parts sites. im not the best mechanic, dont have a lot of time nor money, but the 231 seems simple to work on.. so do i order a full rebuild with a chain to be safe, or just a chain and hope thats all it is?

Look for a used tcase on Craig's list it will prob be cheaper than rebuilding yours. Sounds like the chain might be stretched and skipping. Gotta open it up and take a look to see what's going on. They are pretty easy to work on I just put a new chain in a 242 it only cost me $60 but if you need a complete rebuild kit then I would consider finding a used one to save cash
