Default Newbie Questions About Diffs

Trying to figure out what differentials are in place on my new-to-me XJ. Bet money that many participants on the forums here know by sight. Could any of you kind souls please tell me what you see in the photos as far as differentials. From the photos I have researched, Dana 30 on the front. I can't tell on the rear. Dana 35 on the rear? Is that common?... The rear doesn't look exactly like any photos that I see anywhere. But it looks like the plug is leaking for sure

You're correct. You have a 30 on the front and a 35 on the rear.

The 35 is a very common axle. The other axle you'll see most often is the Chrysler 8.25. Here's a pic of the two of them side by side, with the 8.25 on the left. See the flat bottom on the differential itself? The 35 doesn't have that.

The 8.25 is the stronger of the two axles, but don't despair. The 35 holds up fine until you start putting significantly larger tires on it.

Thank You! Thanks for your help.

The plug appears to be leaking. Wondering if changing the plug only would be normal course of action?
