Hi guys, i have a 1997 cherokee 2.5 turbo deisel. Its having trouble starting the engine turns over fine it just wont fire. however after a few miniutes of turning the key its will rumble into life along with a huge cloud of smoke. then it will be fine all day untill it is left overnight or the 8 hours or so i work then the same thing. Any help/ideas will be appreciated

a Diesel does not like the cold. Probably could use some type of engine heater

 

DO you wait for the glow plug light to go out before starting??? does the glow plug light stay on ???
Try heating the glow plugs twice before starting, so ignition on glow plug light on then off and repeat.

Im doing this at the mo because its so cold.

Priming the fuel filter and the glow plug trick seems to have it starting up first time now. Thanks for your posts its appreciated.

 

Pull the diesel out, ship it to me here in the states, and I will send you a 4.0. K?
