Yea, I figured as much. I will take it to an auto parts store for a scan.

Any idea what to check for first? When my blower motor switch wasn't connected properly (I had to install a new one because the old one stopped working. When I did this I connected them back up and did it wrong), the a/c happened to go on and when this happened the a/c would kick on and off. In the On position, the fan would kick on and then off when the a/c kicked off. I also checked the fuse at number 15 spot, 30 amp fuse and it was good. I am not sure how to check the relay. I did see this on the jeepforum - http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/s...oblem-1071182/. I am not sure that this info is good but I am willing to try anything.

The code was P0118 which is an engine coolant temp sensor. So when I drove it to the nearest parts store, the ce was on. I turned it off, went inside and came back out. I started it and plugged in the scanner and the light went off. Good thing it was able to read a code. I just changed it out for the new one.

More later when I find out how that black part on the back of the blower selector for a/c and heat fits on. I will do some research to figure it out, unless someone here can help me!

Turns out the HVAC control box part that is held on with the tiny hex screws on the back side is broken at the tabs. I guess I will be making a trip to the JY tomorrow morning for more than a few parts that are needed.

Also, I would like to know what my water temps are. Any suggestions on a 2" gauge from Amazon or anywhere else?

Does anyone know what that is called and where to get one?

Have a good look at the wiring to the temp sensor. If that looks okay, test the sensor with a meter, or just spend the $10 and replace it.

I'm not sure I'm following this right, but didn't he already change the sensor?

I've always found the stock temp. gauge perfectly adequate - even if the markings might just as well be C-N-H - but if you've got an "idiot light dash" I'd suggest you look for a proper 6 clock one, rather than get one-ff gauges..

I didn't see where he changed the temp sensor. Since he just replaced the thermostat, my guess is that the wiring right at the connector is damaged. My recommendation would be buying an inexpensive meter and test it. Harbor freight has some decent ones for $20, and even the cheap $3 ones are fine for this.

From the 1996 FSM.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE RESISTANCE TABLE
100F (38C) ...................................... 1365.0
220F (104C) ....................................... 93.5
260F (127C) ....................................... 55.1

easy test to see if electric fan is working as it should, let engine idle in weather ambient air temp 6over 70F, temp will rise to 108C within 10min, fan should come on

If fan will not turn on with protracted idle in warm weather, there is an issue, temp will rise on gauge to show engine is getting hot

test wont work if weather is cool

I changed out the sensor but the issue I am having now is the part on the back of the hvac selector. It has 2 hex screws holding it onto the hvac and mine is broken. My blower wont turn off and not sure my a/c is in the right position because that thing isn't sitting perfectly where it should. Since the blower is on, I cannot tell if the fans go on because of the a/c is on or because I let it idle for 10 minutes in temps over 70. I have not done this yet but will tomorrow since it's going to be near 80. Thanks for the tip AWG

I ended up going onto ebay and buying a used hvac controller with the part that connects to the wiring. I looked all over just for that part and sense no one on here knew what that was called or could help me, buying a new to me part worked out just fine. I installed it today and all my troubles are gone and right before summer.
