Default New speedo gear doesn't fit.

Just bought a 98 xj, with 33inch tires and 4.56 diff ratio, but the speedometer was off. Using the chart from here:

http://jeep-xj.info/HowtoSpeedoGears.htm

I went to quadratec and bought:

http://www.quadratec.com/products/55200_39.htm

Problem is, that it doesnt fit. When I get to the step "You then just push the new gear in its place making sure it is all the way in ( you will feel it clip in place ) and none of the metal shaft is showing." It wont slide into place.

Question is, did I just get a defective part? the inside of the metal shaft on my new speedo gear is very shallow stopping it from sliding into place. Or is it supposed to be shallow (my old 34 tooth one is much deeper).

Also, I noticed quadratec has two different 39 tooth gears

could there be a difference between these two?

Thanks

the new one and old are the same size shaft, the only difference is, the old ones shaft is hollow much deeper than the new one.

got it working. guess the part was either defective (a metal burr maybe) or maybe had something jammed down in it. I used a small drill bit and drilled into pretty easily, then it slid right into place.

Thanks
