Default new so please be gentile, 92 4.0 xj starting issues.

so i have a second hand (its prolly seen many more hands than that) 92 xj with a 4.0, it used to simply die (no sputtering just loss of power but all lights and radio stayed on) now she is idling rough and if i give it gas it back fires (pretty sure through the intake but im new to straight 6's and im the only one working on it so its hard to tell) and refuses to accelerate unless i tap the pedal profusely then it gradually climes anything after 3000 is a slight hesitation but rpm's do respond alot better. i have had the tank out to check the pump and it worked fine. not sure where to go now. thanks in advance, im a college student so im broke but resourceful and i need this peppy little jeep till i graduate then its a 350 swap till then i need her to move.

My wrangler had the same problem. I replaced the oxygen sensor and it went away. Not sayin thats it but its worth the 30 bucks to try. Also try some sea foam its 8 bucks and it works wonders

freeegdr, you are awesome i got the following codes: 14-map voltage too high or low 23-intake air temp 13-no change in map between on and off 24-TPS. so do i need to just start replacing parts all ***** nilly? @ghettojeep i replaced the o2 censor and the battery a fey weeks ago think it could be bad already?

im sure you would have the skill of a brain surgeon. like i said im new to this and very grateful for the hundreds of dollars you have saved me already. so,would replacing the above mentioned censors and see what happens be the best course of action doctor?
