Exclamation new to this site and in need of help

Hello everyone. I'm new to this site and new to jeeps but I know my way around cars.I Hope i can get some help here. I have a 94 grand cherokee 5.2 but the engine is old and tired I was wondering if any newer jeeps use the same block and what transmision will work as this is my daily driver and also ever since I got the car about 3yrs ago Ive had to change the coil about 6 times I can't seem to figure what's causing this problem. Could it be that it burns out due to it being mounted on the block? Any advice will help thanks

The 5.2 was used in the Grands from 93 through 98. 93-95 used an EGR valve, the 96-98 did not. The same block can be fouind in Dodge trucks, although i dont know what years are compatable.

You have a 46rh transmission.

The 5.2 is considered a very good motor which will last as long as the proven 4.0 if taken care of. My wifes 5.2 has almost 170 on it..

What issues are you having?

Well first of all I'm burning too much oil witch I know I need new piston rings and my transmision seems to be slipping and my coil keeps burning. I've replaced it over 6 times in the past 3yrs. It only last about 2-3 months

5.2's are notorious for burning oil when they need a plenum gasket. This entails pulling the intake manifold off.

Might want to give it a shot...
