?? It would be good to know if you have a coil rail. To start verifying you have an 0331 stamped head. It's the rail that plugs into your spark plugs and bolts to the head. Is there one there? Or do you have plug wires? I'm confused. It looks like this....

I do not believe I have either plug-wires or a rail, could either affect my over-heating problems? Thanks for the flushing idea, any other ideas as I'll have to wait several days to turn on my water in the cold to do it? Ill also try and post more pictures later tonight, thanks!

you have to have 1 of them. Take a picture of the passenger side of the engine. If you have a rail, then you probably have the 0331 head that is prone to cracking after an overheat.

you have a coil rail. Couldn't see it in the last pictures you put up.

Open the oil cap, is the oil milky white?

Just for info: I have an 01 that does not have a coil rail. It has a coil out of an 02 dodge viper in it.

Default ????

So I flushed the system and then blew air through the heater core, only clean fluid flushed out. Started it up and still only blows cold air, it does seem more smoke is radiating out of the engine. The smoke does not smell like coolant but its hard to tell the source (may just be fluid burning off since its ice cold out). The coolant is staying clean under the cap and the oil is not milky at all and looks clean. The return hose is still staying cold even after the flush, I have no idea what is going on..

If it stays cold all the time it could be the thermostat remove it and check in a pan of boiling water, even new ones can be bad..

As far as the heater being cold all the time if all else is good the heater control valve may be bad and not opening.

Does your temperature gauge show the engine getting warm? FYI, it should get to 200 pretty quickly, even when it's cold outside. If it doesn't, this strongly suggests a bad thermostat or not thermostat is installed.

It's easy to check. Only two bolts hold the thermostat housing onto the front of the cylinder head. Be sure to buy a new gasket to put it back together.

Default Heating up

So the jeep comes up to temp just fine, stays for a few then skyrockets so I believe the thermostat is ok. One odd thing is the cap burst of and coolant flew out seconds after I started it today and it hasn't run for several days. There is a pressure problem somewhere I just don't know where, especially after seeing water run through it.

All this stuff is classic signs of a cracked head.
