Hey all, I've been reading up here for a while now while researching the various Cherokee's that I was looking to buy.

I just bought my first Jeep, a 1990 Cherokee 4.0, Auto.

The Head Gasket is toast.

I'll be pulling the head off either later tonight, or tomorrow, and taking it to the shop to have it checked.

Hoping to re-install and be back on the road by saturday or sunday.

However...

When researching cost to replace a head gasket on a 96 that I was looking at I knew I could get head bolts, and that they were recommended when replacing a head/gasket that you didn't know, or was marked as being replaced in the past.

While ordering parts, I can't seem to find a head bolt set for a 1990. I was told by the shop that will be checking the head, that they can only get bolts for the 96 and up.

Do I still need to look at ordering a new set, or can the head bolts on the 1990 be reused over and over?

Thanks guys, I'm sure I'll have more questions as time goes on.

i have never reuesed the bolts my self.

I've also seen different opinions on using gasket sealant with the HG...any input there? Anyone know where to get the head bolt set?
