I am screwed. Took it for a drive and it started overheating and so I parked it in a lot. The overflow bottle was bubbling away ( what does this mean exactly)? I'm calling the owner back and giving him a piece of my mind!

Also check engine light came on and says P0302 and P0455 Evap Emission control system leak. Im going to change the spark plugs and coil pack. What do I do about the p0455? Thanks.
Did you get your codes corrected? If you still have the p0455 I would get a new gas cap. That's what worked for me but, I also had a couple of lines by the fuel tank were dry rotted.

Have you changed out your thermostat? That could also be your heating problem.

The owner recently replaced the water pump, thermostat, radiator, heating core, and AC compressor system. I think I see a small leak of something where the head gasket is. Im betting this a-hole overheated it and fixed those things and knew it had a crack in the head (this is just a guess).

Whatever happened to morals and doing the right thing.......
I work my azz off everyday then spend all my money to buy a car for my family and then get screwed.....

It's got 138k, clean with prob a blown gasket and maybe a crack in the head...paid $2,500 for the truck so maybe I can make my money back sold as is.

Im going to try and get some pics up later see what you guys think.

Just fix yours, you bought it cheap enough to do the work and still come out ahead.

I agree, but I need a professional mechanic to look it over and give me the run down of what needs to be fixed and how much it will cost. I will make my decision based on that.
It's also the fact that the owner lied about the problem so who knows what else he could be lieing about.....

BTW....anybody close to Toms River, NJ that is very good mechanically with Jeeps that would take a look at mine? I will pay for your gas? I don't know any mechanics and do not want to get ripped off anymore.

you should definitely be able to see if the head is cracked. It would be between cylinders 3 and 4, directly below the oil fill cap. Is your oil milky?

Replacement heads don't run that much - many people on here have gone through exactly what you are dealing with right now. You have two options:

1. Find a 2002-2007 0331 cylinder head (they revised the casting by 2002, and it wasn't prone to cracking anymore) and it will be a straight swap.

2. Get a reman, reinforced 0331 head from Alabama Cylinder Head or Clearwater Cylinder Head

a good 01 goes for about 4500, you would still be ahead after fixing. Its worth it in the long run.

Hi,
I'm gonna lose my virgin post to u

just bought a 00' myself 3 weeks back but have not drive or done anything to it yet.

I'm a COMPLETE newbie when it comes to wrenching but i did have the same experience on my previous truck and it was just a wrong radiator cap.
Usually (as advised by most), start with the cheapest fix and go from there.

GL.

As I thought and all of you as well, the mechanic said there was coolant in the oil and it probably has a cracked head and other parts are probably ruined as well from the crack.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!! This really sucks!!! The previous owner is being an a**hole and says too bad it's your problem now. I am extremely angry! Now im stuck with a heap of metal outside my house. It's going up for sale tomorrow as is. Hopefully I get my $2500 back.

I still say its worth it to fix it.
If you didnt do much driving the bearings should be Ok.

and... Thats what a "AS IS" sale is... You buy it, its your problem.

Im selling it AS IS... When I bought it the kid said it was great with NO PROBLEMS. He didn't sell it AS IS and I did not buy it from him AS IS. His ad said works great not, as is.........guess not.

I don't know if I have the time or tools to fix it myself so it would cost $$$$ to get it fixed by a mechanic. Im just very frustrated.
