Default New issue, starting in Neutral, not starting in park ....

My check engine light is on (p1899 = nss), but it's never been an issue. Tonight I pushed Jeep out of garage to start as my son was sleeping and didn't realize it was still In neutral. Started up no problem. Drove down street. Put in park and shut off at friends house. Went to start and would not start in park....took a lot of try's to get it fired ad had to throttle to keep on for a min. Let it sit for a while now starts right up again. It's like I pissed it off starting it in neutral . Do I need to replace the nss? Or just not worry about it. Hate for this to strand me.

You may not need to replace it; it may just need to be cleaned. It's pretty easy to do yourself-

I took mine off and cleaned the inside out. The brass/copper contacts gunk up and stop making contact mine got so bad it had no backup lights and would only start in neutral sometimes. Was a quick job, fairly straight forward.

Thanks that is a great article, I grabbed a spare from a junk yard and I just took it apart. I was not able to mark where the contact arm was angled before it came out. Does it find it's place when re-installing, or do I need to find the exact position? thanks
