New guy with a transmission question.
Hey everybody! I'm new to this forum and I wanted to say hello! I just purchased a 95 xj with a 3 inch rough country lift sitting on 31's. So far I love it, best 1500 I've ever spent. Now it does have some issues and I couldn't think of a better place to get help than here. So my first question is..... I am leaking transmission fluid and I'm wondering where exactly I need to add more? I looked all over my engine bay and I can't find it...... its a manual transmission, and it leaks oil and transmission fluid. I've topped off the oil but now I need help with the tranny! Thanks ya'll!

This question is more suited for OEM tech, unless you don't have the original transmission.
Going to need to know which engine you have. Manuals behind the 2.5L and 4.0L are slightly different.
A good writeup on how to service the AX-15, found behind 4.0Ls since about 1989, is here: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/b...change-865520/
I do not advocate using engine oil in these transmissions. Find something like Pennzoil Synchromesh to top it off, or better yet, drain whatever sludge is in there and change the whole thing. If you weren't leaking Redline MT-90 is the best oil for these. Do NOT use regular 75w90 gear oil.
Where's the transmission leaking from? You sure it's coming from there?

This jeep is a project for me. Its my first car ive paid cash for, and id like to learn how to fix most of all of it myself, thank you for your help and the link!

No, Dex/Merc is only for the AW4 automatic transmission. The synchromesh stuff is not an additive, it is a branding of oil.
The NP231 and NP242 transfer cases will run on any ATF you can find at the parts store.

Ok ok, sorry guys im really really slow. Any ATF for my transfer case..... since i already bought some dex-merc would that work for the transfer case?
secondly, I should add penzoil syncromesh to my transmission to top it off? i really just dont want to ruin anything.

Do NOT put GL-5 in your AX-15! It is corrosive to brass and will destroy your synchronizers.
Feel free to top it off with the Synchromesh. It's designed for your gearbox.
Dex/Merc is a very common ATF and will work fine in your transfer case.
