I'm new to the XJ just got a 89 model and on the dash is a lite that says "part time" what is this for. Thanks

 

That's for your 4wd. Part time means you can only use it on loose surfaces like dirt roads or snow. You don't want it on full time, like on pavement, or you will a lot of damage to your transfer case. Its just a light to tell you when your 4wd is engaged.
