Default New guy, Couple of questions

So I'm going to pick up a 96 cherokee thursday, guy says the gears in the front diff are bad. comes with a complete replacement front axel housing etc. while I have the front end out of this thing swapping it, is there anything I do/freshen up in the new housing? I work at a parts store so I get everying at a pretty good price, this is my first jeep so I'm kinda new to everything. been eyeballing cherokee's for a couple years now.

Does the new housing have a different set of gears in it? If you don't know what you're doing with gears I wouldn't recommend messing with them. You'll just end up burning those ones out too.

I'm not swapping gears, I'm swapping the whole front end. Assuming it has the same gear ratio I shouldn't have to touch the gears

Ever hear the saying about the word assume?
Never assume anything. If the axles don't have tags you will have to count the teeth on the gears.

Okay that's good. Just double check the ratios and you should be golden.

yeah that's the plan, I planned on doing a fluid change anyway so I'll probably at least open it up and look at the gears and make sure they're not junk too. just didn't know if there was anything common in the front end of these that have issues, granted I know that used several different front ends and it will depend on which one i have
