Question New to the forum and need some advise

Hey everyone, I got a few questions for you tech guys. First off i just got away from my old f-250 so i am very unfimiliar with the I6, or jeep in general. I am looking forward to buyin a jeep cherokee sport 1993 with 117k for 900, so cheap because the interior needs work(nothing to major though). I have been to this guy already and done an extensive check on just about everything i can get my hands on. Just wanting to find out if there were any major flaws that this year had? anything i might have missed? some general advice. Looking forward to owning a jeep just needing some advice. Thanks

Only thing I found was a couple of complaints about the throttle body, a quick fix. There's a website that collects data from consumers, the link is http://www.carcomplaints.com/
I've found their information very reliable.

My advice about Jeeps, if you don't want to fix it, keep it out of the mud. Not cuz they aren't tough, they are, but you will always try to push harder and harder. Other than that, lift it. The inline 6's are good motors, with water, oil and regular maintenance, you can count on 200000+ miles.

Saw a post on here about somebody making their own. Mine's stock and keeps me happy, never been much on custom interiors.

Honestly dude the only advise i can really tell you is if you start getting into and kind of off roading u gotta make sure u go for quality parts and not just cheep crap. that and this is a uni-body vehicle so frame strengthening is something to look into cuz if not ur rear panels may buckle like mine did. dunno if all that helps but figured id put my two cents in.

lol I actually am getting the jeep through craigslist, im going to try to offer 700 :/ dont know if that will work but hey its worth a try. Thanks ill def check those out, didn't see any rust, or oil leaks. The tranny fluid looked good and didn't smell bad, engine oil looked ok as well as in not caramel colored or thick and gooey. Where can i check the blowoff valve in a I6? i didn't really look for it but just an FIY kinda question i forgot to check that out. lastly im not really planning on mudding or wheeling much. I had another truck that i mudded and frankly i spent three times the trucks worth in parts from breaking down and sinking it in a waterhole. But, i do plan on drivin back home this year approx. 1000 mi any sug on that one?

Use the search function on this forum for your headliner question someone (sorry I don't remember members name) on here did a sweet homebrew headliner, other than his camo pattern it looked factory.

One good thing about Jeeps is that they aren't too expensive, so it shouldn't cost you and arm and a leg. I just put a new water pump on mine, lifetime guarantee pump was 32 bucks.

The headliner fix is pretty easy, just get some fabric from Wal Mart or wherever; I got some pretty nice heavier material for 15 bucks or so. Then get a couple of cans of heavy duty adhesive and lay it on thick on the headliner board. Done.

Ok ill def. look into those. I went and test drove it this morning, i did not buy it yet just a few kinks. A/C and heater dont work, which i don't believe is a BIG problem, its a little out of alightment. It kinda starts a little shaking at about 70, but once i get off the throttle it subsides. When you start it up although it runs great, it seems to hesitate for a brief moment, then it fires right up. Anything that seems real bad? Im quite worried of getting myself into a money pit

You should be, I bought my 95 last year and it's been a money pit, I've been shoveling money to it like crazy.

Be sure you have alot of tools and extra cash laying around for repairs, I've been saving, buying\ ordering parts, replacing parts for a solid year and I'm not even half way finished on what needs fixing. My local auto parts store knows me on a first name basis, they've been talking about throwing a customer appreciation party just for me.

Take some time to say goodbye to your wife and kids, tell them you love them but you won't be seeing them any more because from now on all your free time will be spent fixing\ replacing parts on the Jeep.

Good luck, you're going to need it.
