I'll try to keep this short and to the point.
I have a 2,600 mi road trip coming up in July, and I need to get The Tank (93 2dr) up to snuff. New brakes are going on soon as well as a lot of little thins, but the big'un is the 248k and the oil blow by, the rattles, shakes, and ticks I can live with on a daily basis, but after 23hrs it's gonna get real old!
So. Do I do just do a ring and seal, or do I go short block, long block the whole freakin' thing? Hoping to keep cost down, I'm looking into certified salvage, and trying to get something maybe newer then what's in there now.
Any thoughts?

if you just do rings and stuff its a patch job . your better of machining the block to have correct tolerances. 4 liter long blocks are cheap and can be had for 1600-1800 with exchange and a warranty. imo get a new long block.
youd only be lookin at a handful of hours and a couple hundred bucks for a lesser mile 4.0 swap... if youre near me id even help you at the cost of beer
