new cherokee owner

i have a 93 2wd model with a 5 speed an 4.0 in it and a 90 4x4 model with an auto an 4.0 in it. i dont know much bout them yet an would like to know if it was posible to mate the transfer case from the auto to the 5speed the 90 model's engine is shot an im more of a 5 speed person i would be greatful for any info on this. thanks.

I'm not sure on the manuals, but I know the Auto transmissions between a 2wd and 4wd are not interchangable due to different tailshaft lengths. I would suspect the same is true for the manual transmission as well, you'd probably need one from an 4wd vehicle.

thanks that is wat im thinkin but a guy can hope lol. all that is supose to be wrong with the 90 model is the motor but the runin one is a 93 an i was told that alot of the engine wirin harness is diff do u know anything bout swapin the 2 motors
anhow hard would it be to round up all the parts to do the swap if i went with converin the 2wd to 4wd an keep it manual

I like working on cars, trucks, jeeps, bikes, even lawnmowers... but...
that seems like an awful big project for the benefits. You might be better off selling them both, and buying one that has the set-up that you desire.
By the time you factor in all the fluids, possible wiring harnessess, nuts, bolts, hassels, beverages for you and your buddies, not to mention your time, you could have unloaded both, bought the one you wanted, and been upgrading the HP and suspension.
Probably while saving yourself time and money...
unless of course you own a boneyard.

i have goten rid of the 2 jeeps and now have a 95 cherokee with 10 1/2 in of lift the is rusty's offroad. have almost got it converted from 2 to 4 wheel drive and was wondering if a 231 shifter out of a 95 grandcherokee zj would work and fit in my xj
