Hello to one and all!
I've been in Aurora, CO for three months now and don't know a living soul other than my roommate that I've known for decades. I'm creating this introduction to see if I can find some locals.
To start with, I'm a computer repair technician and had even worked as a Network Administrator for a nationwide corporation for a few years.
I am NOT mechanically inclined but can manage a few odds and ends myself as this is not my first Jeep and I learn by watching.
I'm on my third Jeep and love them to death. The '86 Wrangler was a bit of a money pit but LOTS of fun at Mudfests, that's for sure. The second, '97 Grand Cherokee, saved my life when a tire exploded and I slammed into a brick wall at 75 mph. I even blogged that one: http://wp.me/p3qgZL-d
No brainer, saved my life, bought another of the exact same Jeep, lol.
I currently have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 4.0L straight 6, stock. After the Wrangler, I no longer go mudding in my own vehicle. Now that I live in the mountains, I hike. My Jeep is a commuter only. On the downside, though it's shiny inside and out, I've had some issues since I bought it last October 2013. Minimized the death wobble before I left Florida with new control arms, two ball joints, new front shocks, some shock absorber type of thing that went on the end of the steering column and some long curved bar that does something with the steering. Again, not a mechanic so I don't know what they're called. Buddy picked them out on Rock Auto, I paid for them, he installed them.
Unfortunately, this wobble is beginning to resurface after some 2,500 miles.
My current issue is that I don't know anybody here. I live in a fancy apartment complex (by the generous grace of my friend) and can't work on my vehicle here. Something as simple as doing a ghetto home flush to the radiator with a hose is not even an option for me. Now I'm not necessarily asking if I can come to your home and do stuff in your driveway but I need to meet other Jeep owners so I can learn things in this town.
Who is an honest and inexpensive mechanic? What auto parts places do you prefer? Do any of you do mechanic side work? Do you need a trail riding companion? Would you like to go hiking with us? That type of stuff.
I've never taken part in a forum and have therefore never made a post in one so I hope this is all appropriate and somebody sees it. Anything at all that any of you have to pitch in would be much appreciated.
I look forward to meeting anybody in the Denver area.
Thank you,
NevynTheNomad

ETA:
You might want to have a mod to move this thread to "Wheeling Neighborhoods", not really tech.
