Default need reverse lights for inspection..How can I bypass nss for lights to work

98,auto,
I know my NSS is starting to act up, cause sometimes I have to put it in Neutral for it to start.

Is there a way I can get my reverse lights to work when I put it in reverse, without having to buy a new NSS.

I know some of you will say clean it out, but i've tried 3 times and that thing is NOT coming off.

Yeah! they are a son of a gun to get off and can be even harder to get open! I've only ever cleaned and re greased one. My sons. But I've replaced many. My cusomers get new ones. $$$$$

You could put a switch in the dash to turn on the back up lights. I did this on my old IHC Scout 800.

I would run wires from the switch directly to the reverse lights? im guessing that would be the best way

Check with the inspection rules, but that would work.

Since you're having issues starting, you REALLY need to fix or replace the NSS. It'll solve BOTH of your problems.

You could just get reverse lights and wire them through the trailer harness.

He already has lights. His switch isn't working.

yeah for now i had the same problem eventually it got to the point where i had to have it in neutral and wiggle the shifter while turning the key...just replace it you can get them on ebay for like $50-100 and you cannot bypass them on a 1997-2001 since the tcm and ecm controls everything

and the whole switch for the reverse lights i doubt an inspection agent would go for that unless you found some way to put a momentary switch in the shifter for when its in reverse and run that switch to the lights

Not a good idea, especially if you use brighter bulbs, because the switch usually cannot take the amperage and has a relay to the lights.
