Default Need part reference 2000 Cherokee missing a page in my manual

1J4FN28S7YL552466, 2000 Cherokee. Looking for both rear axles. I believe it’s a Chrysler 8.25 with 27 spline. I missing a page in my parts manual. Can anyone verify the axles required to be replaced. Non ABS with 5-4.50 lug pattern. Or provide the part numbers. If needed it’s a RHD, 4WD with a 4.0L

Model: Cherokee (XJ)
Engine: Toyota 2.4l diesel non-turbo (from a 1985 pickup) installed in 2009

The 2000 came with 29 spline shafts
Chrysler 8.25 - 29 spline, 1.21" diameter shafts, 8.25" ring gear, 3" axle tube - used 97-01
Mopar p/n 5209-8902 left or right, same p/n

Have a look around Cruiser's site : http://cruiser54.com/

I believe the year 2000 and 2001 had a different set up. Check it and let me know. Because when we rebuilt the rear axle I swear I remember 27 splines.

For a 2000 Xj Morris shows several other brands of 29 spline shafts, and for Motive Gear they
show both 27 and 29 spline. You can chat with them and ask them about it.

If you have a 27 spline, maybe a previous owner swapped it in.

The 8.25 went to 29 spline in 1996, used this p/n through 2001: 5209 8902

Copied from the Jeep Mopar 94-96 parts Catalog:
1 SHAFT, Drive
5300 8134 2 1994-95 w/27 Tooth Spline
5209 8902 2 1996 w/29 Tooth Spline

Copied from the 2000 Parts Catalog:
12 5209 8902 2 SHAFT, Axle
Copied from the 2001 Parts Catalog:
12 5209 8902 2 SHAFT, Axle

I used that part number, and it shows Mopar 27 spline. All I know when I redid both axles one was a Dana35 front end and a Chrysler 8.25 rear end with a 27 spline.

I suggest you pull the axles and count the splines before you order anything.

Let me just ask, why do you want to replace the two axle shafts? You said you rebuilt the
rear axle. Were the shafts worn or gouged by the outer bearings (like mine were) ?

By the way, all XJs came with a Dana 30 on the front. The Dana 35 is a rear differential
which also happens to use 27 spline shafts.

As for the missing page in your manual, did you find and download the 2000 Jeep Parts
manual from the link given above?
