Well I'd try that, but she doesn't run right now. I had a bad CPS and had no spark. Changed it out and still no spark. Put it new junkyard coil and got very weak orange spark. I think I need a new coil, but I can't be sure. It gets 12 volts to the coil, so I think I'll try another JY coil from a Jeep I know ran good. And if that doesn't work, I don't know what yo do next.

My friend got pulled over with a glass pack and they sound like a "rice burner". I bought a flowmaster 40 and it sounds great. Spend the extra and buy it. The ticket were I live is $50 so a $30 muffler plus $50 plus and new stock muffler is a lot more then just buying a flowmaster. The sounds deeper and like a jeep should sound like. Looks almost stock compared to a red cherry bomb tube. Do it right the first time and not twice and spend more than necessary.

Yea, it's ridiculous. Makes it hard to pay someone for an inspection sticker. Some garages will just use a car that passes emissions to do the sniffer test on the OBDI vehicles that might not pass on their own. That's only for a certain price though:brows: It's even harder with OBDII to pass emissions. For example, some people have to use to spark plug nonfouler trick to get lower emmission readings. Almost sounds like I've done this before...

You bring up a good point, but I don't have enough money right now. I have to first make my Jeep run again, get the muffler, and pay for insurance all while living paycheck to paycheck.

I'm doing the same right now with college tuition going up I have no money... Save a little and do it right. I caught my muffler on a rock, my CPS went out, and tail pipe got flattened on the same rock in one weeks so I know how you feel. Dealer screwed my over with the cps, Never threw a code and I took it to the dealer and they put one in and it cost me 300. Here is one that might work. My set up is not stock and I can't remember what stock is. If it doesn't fit(to short) get a small male/female piece of tube and put it between your cat and exhaust. Cut it if it is to long.

Well the link I think is broken. You can find one for $60-70.

I did the CPS myself, but it wasn't too much fun. But I don't think you understand. The entire side of my muffle is ripped open. I cannot drive it like this...I'll be pulled over immediately. It started for half a second and I was like holy moly that's loud! And I looked under my Jeep and there was a muffler that was torn in half. I'll probably put up a picture tomorrow.

Do the tin can fix until you can do it right. Thats what i did. Take a large tin/aluminium can and cut it and fit it over current exhaust. This will work very temporarily. There wont be a leak if done right.

ok thats too much for me haha i would do the glasspack before i did this

They don't make a large enough can for my application. My buddy is a professional welder and I can weld good enough to make it hold, but going through all that work seems pointless when I can buy a $25 muffler and clamp it on it 10-15 mins. The prep work required to weld the muffler shut would take more than that alone. I usually try to do things the right way, but this is just one of those times where I have neither the money or time.

sure they do, a 55g oil drum is technicaly a giant "can"

Yea, haha. That would be a pretty bullet proof muffler, too. I should just straight pipe it. It's practically free to do, but I hear these XJs run like crap with no back pressure. Well, I'm about to call it a night. I worked for 10 hours on my feet today and I'm tired. I'll post tomorrow with a picture of my muffler. But for now, Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.

No inspections here in michigan and no it does not sound like a "rice burner" and i have never been pulled over period. I will say that they sound like crap with out a tailpipe so you have to run one or the drone inside will kill you. Mine has a low toned idle for a 6cyl and when I rev it up it sounds pretty powerful I have had people that know nothing about cars ask me what V8 I have i just walk away.

haha its even better down here in florida just about anything is legal my friend ran a ZJ with the 5.2 with a pvc snorkel 33x12.50s stock and i kno this is bad so don't bash me but he cut his exhaust off before the cat and the worst he ever got was getting pulled over for a headlight out lol

o and ive got a flowmaster 40 installed for $50 including the muffler itself of course it was used but a lot of exhaust shops have mufflers people put on for one day then hate the sound and have removed the next just something you may want to look into if you want a cheap muffler but don't want a glasspack
