Need help w axle play and possible washer(?)
So, I replaced the old front hub assembly and noticed that the axle can be moved in and out of the housing; about 5-10 mm, this causes a slight play when checking 12 and 6.
I got some advice earlier about the dust cover on the axle but it seems mine is to be where it is on the shaft (it's smaller on the far side than on the "hub side". When I push the axle in it sits tight with the housing but when torquing down the axle nut it moves it out again, leaving a slight gap that then translates into play at 6 and 12.
The axle has (after hub) a 4 mm washer, 36 mm nut, locking washer, cover and cotter pin; am I missing a washer or should the 4 mm be a bigger one?
Number 2 in pic is where the gap is when the 36 mm nut is tightened:

Would a fatter washer hurt tho? I'm thinking that I might want to seal off the gap so the salt and grit doesn't get in there.
