Default need help identifying something

on my 88 righ below where the brake booster hose goes into the intake manifold there is some kind of vacum deal, does anyone know what its called?
i have been hearing a honking noise like there is a goose under my hood.. i though it was my power steering but after looking while its idling thats where i think it is coming from, if you look at it there is like a little thing that goes into the manifold when mine is idling like crap i see that think moving around so i moved it with my finger and it would change my idle i think the diafram inside the vacume thing is bad or something.

yes and its going to be 50 to100 bucks from the parts house
you may be able to bypass it if you don't have required smog test

Plug off the vacuum line going to it and fab up a plate that is the same as where it bolts down and put the plate in its place.

Yes. I had a '87 Trans Am that I did that to and it actually made it run alot better than it ever had. I can't see why you would have a problem on your Jeep.

some engines will burn valves if you remove them and some run better

I have never heard that before but the only vehicle I have done it to was my T/A. Given the fact that his is an '88 I would have thought that it would be ok. Maybe someone who knows more about the renix motors will chime in with their thoughts.

To the OP, I personally think that it should be fine but don't just take my word for it. I would search on Naxja to see if anyone has ever done it before. I'l sure that you will find something about it. Oh as please post back if you find anything. I'm kinda curious now.

i did a few searches on naxja and some guys just plugged the vac line going to it and pluged the valve itself. they didnt mention anything about it being harmful. only that it made it run better if anything.
