I've got a no start on my 4.0L auto 96' Jeep now. I changed the headlight/dimmer switch to fix a problem with no low beams. Thats fixed for now and they work now but now it wont start. I have been over everything for unplugged connectors etc. the only thing i found was a 3 prong connector near the defrost but i cant find anything that it would plug into. The thing doesnt crank, theres no ignition switch clicking. I've verfied that theres power at the ignition switch, but not power at the starter, i changed the relays around and still nothing. The fuel pump can be heard loud and clear priming. I scanned it, no codes or anything but the "GEN" light seems to stay on... I have no idea what its meaning is. Does anybody happen to know whats between the ignition switch and the starter? Thanks for all help!

Andrew

Check the Park Safety switch, try wiggling the gearshift or move it out of park and back in.

well it could always be the nuetral saftey switch but if you giggle the shifter and still no start, try your starter relay or the seliniod. if not that check the ign coil and check all ground from batt to alt to starter etc. not to mention your relays and fuses under the dash and on your firewall. just some ideas

I'm starting to think its the factory anti theft or the aftermarket one on this Jeep since theres alot of added wires and what seems to be an anti theft system. if the battery is almost drained the starter will make like... a fluttering noise, but as soon as i put a booster pack on it, wont even click.

Got it running. the retard (both me for not finding it sooner and the guy who installed it) had an aftermarket alarm install with a starter kill switch rigged to a switch i didnt see. i must have bumped it with my hand when i was changing my dimmer switch since it was mounted near by. Got it running thanks!

I replaced the dimmer switch/headlamp switch but my low beams are lazy, they only sometimes work still. As well my parking lamps dont work yet my rear tail lights do.

You may have inadequate grounds Andrew. Try running extra grounds to each light that is giving you a problem.
