ok i have a 96 cherokee, it is 4 and ahalf hours away and im going out tuesday to flat tow it home, i know i need to remove the drive shaft can anyone crawl under theres or tell me what wrench i need to make sure i take the right one. thank you
Why remove the driveshaft? XJ's are pulled 4-down behind motorhomes all over heck.
Mine (also a 96) has been shoving a 37' Southwind around for several years, lol.
Transmission to Neutral, then shift transfer case to Neutral and leave it there, then put the transmission in D momentarily to make sure the transfer case is really in neutral...then back to Park. Key to "off". Good to go.
Do NOT leave the transmission anywhere other than Park, else you'll have moving parts that aren't getting oiled. Transfer case oils mechanically off the output shaft...so it's fine.
If you have a 2WD...disconnect the driveshaft.
