Engine from a grand cherokee won't work, any cherokee 4.0 will work, but look for a 91-95 for plug-n-play.

Nothing, he's not really sure what he's talking about.

Look for any 4.0L Jeep motor from '92 to early '99. Use all the brackets and sensors from your current engine. Upgrade where possible (injectors, exhaust, intake, etc...).

There are about 3 or 4 different opinons on which year motor to buy (and umpteen opinions of what combination of parts to use). My choice was a '95 block with '97+ cam and '99+ intake manifold. I based my choice on reading 'internet experts' that the 7120 head flowed the best, the dual patteren cam of the '97+ was better for torque, and the '99+ intake also flowed better. After all, the engine is an air pump, and the more efficently it flows air the better it will preform. Again, this is sort of just my opinion.

The bosses for motor mounts and accessories are different. I was stating a plug-n-play option, Cherockee is correct, based upon a compilation of the web gurus. I used a 93 long block in my 99, I had to swap my 99s sensors, accessories over no that big of a deal,so keep that in mind if you come across a 96-99 engine. 00-01 will work but with 0331 head, and adding a distributor can lead to headaches.
